Threadbox vs Freshdesk
Freshdesk is one of the most widely used helpdesks. It covers ticketing, SLAs, automations, a customer portal and knowledge base, and connects to Freshcaller for phone and Freddy AI for automation and agent assist. It is mature, well documented and has a large app marketplace.
Threadbox started as an AI support agent and grew a full support desk, Threads, around it. This page compares the two for teams deciding between a traditional helpdesk with AI bolted on and an AI-first platform where the agent and the desk share one knowledge base, one queue and one price.

Where the two products overlap
Both give you tickets (Threads in Threadbox) with statuses, priorities, custom fields, tags and assignment; response targets tied to business hours; rules that run on create, update and on a schedule; round-robin and skills-based routing; saved replies; CSAT surveys; reports; a branded customer portal with a knowledge base and community; and email, chat, phone, SMS and social channels.
Both also import from other helpdesks and offer a REST API, webhooks and a mobile app. If you are comparing checklists, you will find the core helpdesk features on both sides.
The AI agent: built in versus bolted on
In Freshdesk, the AI agent is Freddy AI Agent, licensed in session packs, and agent assist is Freddy Copilot, licensed per agent. They are capable, but they are separate purchases and configured separately from the rest of the desk.
In Threadbox, the AI agent is the front door. It trains on your website, documents and Help Hub guides, calls your APIs through plain-English actions and deterministic regex webhooks, and hands over to Threads with a summary, priority and team already set. Sidekick, the agent-assist layer, uses the same knowledge and draws on the same message credits as the agent.
Pricing and seats
Freshdesk charges per agent per month, with more advanced features unlocking at higher tiers, and adds AI and voice as further line items. Collaborators can be added on some plans.
Threadbox plans include agent seats and message credits in GBP. Extra seats are a simple per-seat add-on, viewers and contributors are free, and credits can be topped up if the AI agent is busier than expected. There is no per-resolution fee.
Voice, channels and data residency
Freshdesk offers phone through Freshcaller and messaging through Freshchat or the Omni bundle. Threadbox includes phone with IVR, voicemail and a browser softphone, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, X, Slack and Microsoft Teams in the same product on higher plans, with carrier charges passed through at cost.
Freshworks offers several regional data centres. Threadbox is UK/EU hosted by default, bills in GBP with VAT invoices and signs a DPA on request.
